Nominated Supervisor/ Educational Leader
I began my teaching career at Gum Nut Gully Pre-school back in 1999 after graduating from the University of Melbourne. It was with great pleasure that I rejoined the team at GNG in 2016 after seeing my youngest child off to school.
I like to view each child as competent, capable, creative, resourceful and resilient and enjoy helping children to strive for all they are capable of being. I believe in the value of play-based learning and develop programs that are flexible and responsive to children’s current interests and passions. I also enjoy working collaboratively with parents to reach common goals for the children.
In 2018 I took on the role of Nominated Supervisor and Educational Leader and was honoured to be able to lead such a passionate team of educators strive to build inspiring educational programs for the children in our care for many years to come.
I am in my second year at Gum Nut Gully Preschool and I am thoroughly enjoying working as a Co-Educator with Green Group within this wonderful community!
My employment background was in the Human Resources field but in 2012, I decided to follow my passion of working with children and I completed my Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care and commenced as a Co-Educator with a preschool in Greensborough in 2013, moving to Gum Nut Gully Pre-school in 2018.
In my role as a Co-Educator I am committed to providing exceptional care, compassion and love to all children whilst nurturing, guiding and supporting them in their learning, development and growth.
I am so excited to join the team at Gum Nut Gully Pre-school. I resonate strongly with the pre-school's values and philosophy, which is what really drew me to the role. I am particularly looking forward to engaging with the Bush Kinder program.
After completing my Bachelor of Early Childhood Education at Deakin University four years ago, I began working at a sessional kindergarten in Fairfield where I taught 4-5 year olds. I also had the pleasure of teaching a group of 3-4 year olds at a kindergarten in Malvern. Earlier this year I enjoyed a different experience, spending time teaching 3-4 year olds at a private school in Keysborough. Over the years I have also spent time as a Casual Relief Teacher in a variety of kindergarten settings.
It’s a privilege to be part of a child’s kindergarten journey and I am very much looking forward to being a part of this community.
I have been at Gum Nut Gully since 1997 and have a Certificate 3 in Children’s Services.
I am committed to ongoing professional development and my passion is to provide a stimulating learning environment where children feel happy, safe, nurtured and supported. I support an environment that prepares children for life experiences and their individuality is valued and respected, whilst having lots of fun and laughter.
I embrace diversity and welcome and respect children and families from all cultures.
Our teachers - 3 year old
I completed my Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies at the University of Melbourne in 1996. I have been fortunate to find a career doing exactly what I love - working with families and educating children.
I have taught in many differing environments; long day care, sessional kindergartens within Australia and London and nursery schools within a primary school setting in the United Kingdom.
I have a vested interest in integrating children with additional needs into sessional kindergarten settings. The one element that remains the same, irrespective of the learning environment, is my strong belief that play is how children learn and thrive.
I incorporate all aspects of the curriculum through a play-based program. The 3s will explore English, Maths, Science, Technology and the Arts through the medium of play. Play is open ended and allows all individual children to participate at their given level.
It is a joy to watch the 3s start the year, often their first time separating from their parents and learn to trust us, grow socially and emotionally and become confident and involved learners.
I am thrilled to be part of the Gum Nut Gully team!
I am currently Co-Educator (assistant) to the 3 Year Old Group and started full time in July 2017. Now in my 3rd year at Gum Nut Gully, I have time to reflect on what a wonderful learning environment we have created here.
At Gum Nut Gully we are fully committed to educating children through play. The children under our care learn about the world through play-acting. They take onboard elements of mathematics, language and socialisation in fun and inclusive surroundings.
I respect children as capable, competent and active participants in their own learning through play. I believe that if children are respected, they will be more likely to respect others. I believe this is essential for the well-being of the learning community and will foster a nourishing learning environment where all the children can reach their potential.
We actively encourage children with special needs to integrate with their session groups to help them reach their potential. The play-based learning is especially helpful in this context. It creates an environment where all the children learn to respect each other and celebrate the differences within the group.
