Commitment to child safety

All Children who come to our preschool have a right to feel and be safe. At Gum Nut Gully Preschool, our committee members, staff and volunteers will:

  • Embed a culturally safe environment for ALL children - including children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds and children with additional needs.

  • Inform families and communities and involve them in promoting child safety and wellbeing.

  • Empower children about their rights and involve them in making decisions affecting them. We are deeply committed to the safety, participation and empowerment of all children.

  • Ensure we are committed to child safety particularly in the recruitment process of all new staff members, existing staff, committee members and volunteers.

  • Embed child safety and wellbeing standards and practices which will be reviewed and  updated regularly.

  • Ensure Equity is upheld and diverse needs are respected. We are committed to the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and protecting their cultural safety.

  • Ensure staff are provided with ongoing training and supported to deliver up to date child safety and wellbeing practices.

  • Share commitment to prevent child abuse and remove any risks by identifying these risks early and act upon any concerns.

  • We have a zero-tolerance commitment to uphold and stand against any form of child abuse and any allegations or cause for concern. Any concerns will be dealt with accordingly whilst adhering to our policies and procedures.

  • Ensure child safe policies and procedures are documented and regularly reviewed and updated.
